* Eley Kishimoto Spring 2010 Show
Posted on October 12th, 2009 by Circus. Filed under Labels.
We arrived in London on an amazingly sunny Sunday morning just in time for the Eley Kishimoto show. After basking in the sun for a while (well actually melting - all of us dressed in black and prepared for rain!) we met up with our good friend Jade who joined us for the show. Some glasses of Champagne and show bags put us in a great mood - everyone loves free stuff!
The collection called “Beyond the Chintz” had a nice balance with feminine shapes mixed with some killer prints. We talked with Mark Eley in Paris and he gave us an incite into the direction they are pushing the label, bringing a lot of production back into the London studio and concentrating on their trademark prints.
Here’s our favorite…
* London Fashion Week

I have been going to LFW for many years now but i have never been as impressed as i was this year. The whole setup was excellent with the exhibition showrooms set in two venues, Somerset House and 180 Strand - its so refreshing to view collections in a good space with natural light! All of the designers we talked to were equally impressed so well done London!
One of the definite highlights for us was the SHOWstudio Fashion Revolution exhibition in the Somerset House location. The retrospective show featured lots of archived projects from the nine years SHOWstudio has been live. My particular favorite was the behind the scenes video of Alexander McQueen captured in his studio - it gave a great insight into the processes he uses to create his work. A close second was the giant Naomi Campbell sculpture that took up two floors of the exhibition space. Interactive graphics tablets and projectors allowed you to write whatever you liked across the sculpture - we managed to write Circus Store across her back!

* We love Male Mode

I don’t know about anybody else but i spend my morning with a coffee reading my favorite blogs. The last one i added to my bookmarks was Male Mode. Cillian, Male Modes writer is a very talented guy. What sets him apart from the rest is the quality of his writing and his great eye for new designers.
I hope you like it as much as me…

* Gaspard Yukievich
Posted on September 30th, 2008 by Ciara O Donovan. Filed under Labels.
The AW 08 collection by Gaspard is called “The Beautiful Fall” , which is taken from the title of a novel by Alicia Drake, the book recalls tales of a 1970’s Paris, he takes inspiration from seventies style icons Paloma Picasso and Loulou de la Falaise who feature throughout the novel. The AW 08 collection is reinterpreted to modern times by the use of giant exposed zips and graphic colours, one electric azure dress comes with an option of zipping off its sleeves. Also in the collection is a fantastic dress that can only be described (en francais) as ‘frou frou’, it consists of spirals of silk tubing, jagged edges and of course features the habitual chunky zip fashioned into a neckline. The menswear collection although untitled is equally interesting and innovative; hoodies have chunky pull strings attached and the jackets have giant silver riri zips and have a slightly quilted look.
The centre piece of this collection was a specially crafted full length dress which featured cascading folds of silks in degrading shades of purple and is a couture piece in its own right. This intricate dress by Gaspard was selected to appear as the main image for the invite to Rendez Vous for this seasons Paris Fashion Week.
